GST Calculator

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) applies to almost every product and service in India, so anyone running a business, raising invoices, or simply checking a bill needs to compute it accurately. This GST calculator handles both directions: adding GST to a base price, or extracting the base price from a GST-inclusive amount. Enter the amount and the GST rate (5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%), choose whether to add or remove the tax, and it instantly shows the GST amount, the net price, and the split into CGST, SGST, or IGST. For intra-state sales the tax divides equally into central and state components, while inter-state sales attract a single IGST. The tool removes the guesswork from invoicing and price decisions.

About the GST Calculator

A GST calculator computes the tax payable on a transaction and splits it into the correct components. It works in “add GST” mode (tax on a base price) and “remove GST” mode (backing out the base from an inclusive price), and it divides the tax into CGST/SGST or IGST.

Why it is useful

Getting GST wrong on an invoice leads to compliance headaches and pricing errors. This calculator ensures the tax, the net amount, and the CGST/SGST/IGST split are correct every time, whether you are pricing a product, billing a client, or verifying a bill you received.

How the calculation works

To add GST: GST amount = base × rate ÷ 100, and total = base + GST. To remove GST from an inclusive price: base = inclusive ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), and GST = inclusive − base. For intra-state supply, CGST and SGST are each half the GST; for inter-state supply, the full GST is charged as IGST.

Key inputs explained

  • Amount: The base price (to add GST) or inclusive price (to remove GST).
  • GST rate: The applicable slab — 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%.
  • Transaction type: Intra-state (CGST + SGST) or inter-state (IGST).

Example calculation

Adding 18% GST to a ₹10,000 intra-state sale.

The ₹1,800 GST splits into ₹900 CGST and ₹900 SGST for an intra-state sale. Had it been inter-state, the full ₹1,800 would be charged as a single IGST.

Benefits

  • Adds or removes GST in one click.
  • Splits tax correctly into CGST, SGST, or IGST.
  • Speeds up accurate invoicing and pricing.

Limitations

  • Does not determine which rate applies to a given product (HSN/SAC).
  • Ignores cess that applies to a few luxury and sin goods.
  • Not a substitute for filing or input-tax-credit calculations.

Tips

  • Confirm the correct slab from the HSN/SAC code before billing.
  • Use “remove GST” to find the base price in an MRP-inclusive bill.
  • Keep CGST and SGST equal — they are always half each on intra-state sales.
